生平

Lettres a M. Malthus, 1820

萨伊出生于里昂。他的家族信奉新教，早在父亲让-艾蒂安·艾蒂安·萨伊以前，因为《南特敕令》被废止而举家自尼姆迁至日内瓦。他原本意图从商，于是和弟弟霍勒斯一起被送往英国，住在克罗伊登的一户商人人家，从事职员工作。他后来前往伦敦为另一名雇主服务。萨伊随后返回法国，在一家人寿保险公司上班。
